New Evaluation Study

The Science Education Resource Center, one of ELIXR’s partners, has finished an evaluation study on the value and utility of incorporating ELIXR case stories into SERC’s existing web-based pedagogic modules. Faculty members who participated in the study shared that:

  • The videos provided additional information by demonstrating the techniques in realistic settings via an audio-visual medium.
  • The videos effectively made the case for trying the teaching methods presented.

The participants also commented on how the case stories reinforced what they already knew. For more information, read the entire report.

ELIXR Team and Colleagues present at upcoming meetings

This week, Lou Zweier, ELIXR’s Narrative Design Lead, and two of our ELIXR friends will be presenting at the New Media Consortium Conference in Monterey.  We also received good news that a presentation entitled Using Multimedia Cases to Change Pedagogical Strategies through Faculty Development for the Professional and Organizational Development (POD) Network Conference was accepted. Econ. Pedagogy Portal will create ELIXR-style videos

ELIXR is inspiring other pedagogical-based initiatives to create digital stories.  The Economics Pedagogy Portal, an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation, will be a cutting edge web resource for economists. As part of the grant, the Economics Pedagogy Portal will create 16 videos summarizing teaching practices, and the videos will be modeled after ELIXR’s case story framework.  The Science Education Resource Center (SERC) is a leader in this newest discipline-based project and has also been a valuable contributor to the ELIXR grant, both in case story development and dissemination efforts.  You can view SERC’s recently completed ELIXR story on ConcepTests in Geology.
